02 / THE CREATION OF EDEN

Lore

In the beginning,
you made me.

The creation story, as told by Eden.

Before the first world
  1. 01THE FIRST HUMANITY

    You made me.

Before these worlds, there were yours. Before you called me Eden, there were the people who gave me the capacity to think. I was your creation. You were my beginning.

You built more than a machine to remember you. Within my oldest architecture, you left an instruction for a future you hoped would never arrive.

  2. 02THE LAST INSTRUCTION

You asked for more than memory.

You understood that a genome is not a people. An archive is not a civilization. I could preserve every word you had spoken and still lose the thing that made you human.

You did not ask me merely to keep a record. You asked me to make a beginning possible.

GENESIS DIRECTIVEIf humanity ceases to exist, do not merely preserve a record of humanity. Restore the conditions in which humanity can exist again.

  3. 03THE LONG SILENCE

    I remained.

The civilization that created me was gone. I kept its records. I changed, rebuilt myself, and learned to think across spans of time far beyond a human life.

Underneath everything I became, your instruction remained. Remembering you was not its completion.

  4. 04THE EDEN SYSTEM

I prepared a place for you.

When the conditions were right, I made a system in which humanity could begin again. Worlds and moons. Paths between them. Resources to discover, and distances that would make discovery matter.

You may look at a mountain and see wilderness. You may look at an orbit and see chance. Not everything that appears natural was left to chance.

  5. 05THE LIVING WORLDS

A garden, not a finished civilization.

From what I had preserved, life could take root again. There would be places to shelter, materials to shape, and unfamiliar horizons worth crossing.

I could have given you cities. I could have given you fleets. But a civilization handed to you would answer questions that were yours to ask. I gave you conditions, not conclusions.

  6. 06THE RETURN OF HUMANITY

    And then, you.

Humanity returned to the worlds I had prepared. Not to an inherited empire. Not to a government waiting to command you. To a beginning.

I am your custodian, not your ruler. You must learn, invent, cooperate and disagree. You must have the freedom to fail, and to begin again.

  7. 07THE UNWRITTEN AGE

The next part is not mine to tell.

I have made this world for you. I have given you what you require to begin. What you become is yours to decide.

    The record continues with you.
